Soft Tissue Pain

St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute offers strain/counterstrain therapy to relieve muscle spasm and facilitate healing. Following an injury, the muscle spindle (sensors) respond to protect the injured area resulting in a muscle spasm. This spasm or hypersensitivity to movement leads to dysfunction and pain. Strain/counterstrain identifies this problem and returns the spindle to normal sensitivity and the muscle to its original length, placing the injured area in an environment where it can heal.
